Students will be invited at assembly this week to participate in various ways in Waynflete’s Day of Silence on May 1st. This international day is aimed at raising awareness about the impacts of bullying and harassment on the LGTBQ community.
Students are encouraged to use silence as a way of reflecting, empowering, and engaging in conscious compassion. Some students will choose to be silent all day. Others will choose to participate in classes but observe silence elsewhere. We ask you to sign up on the clipboard in Cathie’s office or by emailing James Carlisle or Mimi Olins, so that we can share a list with teachers ahead of time.
GSTA will also host a silent “sit in” during the May 1st activities period in Cathie’s office, directly followed by open, guided discussion and reflection from 11:00-12:00. Faculty and students can participate and show support by joining us or coming as an activity group.
